Copper Hills Little League serves the youth of Sahuarita, Green Valley and adjacent areas in Southern Arizona.
Our Mission: To instill in the children of the community the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage and respect for authority, so that they may be well adjusted, stronger and happier children and will grow to be good, decent, healthy and trustworthy citizens.
Opening Day is Tomorrow (Saturday, March 28)! The Opening Ceremony will start at 10:00 am on Anamax Park Field 2. We will start lining up players on the field at 9:45 am. Parking lots fill up very fast at the park, so it is best if you arrive at least 30 minutes before the start. Remember, there are 3 parking lots surrounding Anamax Park. Once the parking lots fill up, if you park on road shoulders, make sure you do not block driveways, mailboxes, fire hydrants, etc.
This year, we renewed our partnership with a local business to manage the Anamax Park snack bar. Remember, every dollar you spend in the snack bar helps support league activities and drives down registration costs.
This creates an opportunity for parents; because teams will NOT be required to provide volunteers for the snack bar for each of the games, YOU will have more time to support the league in other ways (umpire, field maintenance, scorekeeping, pitch count, score board, etc!). Please step up!
Everybody is a Volunteer
Copper Hills is 100% volunteer operated and supported (board members, managers, coaches, and umpires).
Please be proactive in YOUR volunteer support. Don’t wait to be asked. There are many ways to contribute, here are a few: 1) Jump on the field before the games and help water the field or rake and drag, 2) During practice, help the manager and coaches. The ideal practice has multiple activities going on to get kids as much repetition as possible. 3) For upper divisions, volunteer to keep the scorebook or pitch count (there are instructions in the books on how to do it), 4) Volunteer to umpire.
Game Schedules are Posted
Game schedules are posted on the CHLL website (except for junior and intermediate interleague schedules, D12 is still developing). We do our best to hold strictly to the posted schedule, but from time to time we do make minor changes, please be patient. Most of you have likely been receiving the reminder emails and or texts from our online schedule. If you have not been receiving the reminders and you would like to, you need to log in to your profile and change your notification settings.
Every season, during the first 2 weeks of the season, we hear from concerned parents about why we scheduled games on certain days, at certain times or how late some of the games go (especially for players and parents who are new to the Minors Division). All I can say is that I completely agree, but we currently don’t have much in the way of alternatives. We have to schedule more than 400 games on 3 fields over 9 weeks (during which Easter, Mothers Day, Memorial Day, AIMS Testing, and Graduations, occur). Every year, our volunteers do everything they can to solve this impossible math challenge. Unfortunately, we can’t please everyone.
To improve the situation, there are 2 things we all can do:
1) As managers, coaches and parents, we can help by making sure that games start on time. That means having the managers and players at the ballpark no later than 30 minutes before game time for Minors, Majors and Juniors and 15 minutes for Coach Pitch and Tee Ball (unless the manager tells you to be there earlier). Starting games late can make every subsequent game start late.
2) Ask your community leaders to make expanding our parks a priority. As a league, this year, we will have 46 teams playing on the 3 Anamax Park fields. As most of you already know, this creates a tightly packed schedule (we intentionally avoid Sundays and reserve most Fridays for rain make-ups and practices). While adding fields won’t happen in time for league activities this year or even next year, having even one more Little League field available in the near future (preferably at Anamax Park) would make a huge difference.
Thanks to all of our Volunteers for your efforts! Let’s have a great season!
